1 Year Associate Degree In Aviation Program

Is it really possible to get an Associate Degree in Aviation and do so in just one year while getting your Commercial Pilot rating and be ready for a pro pilot career?

The answer is, Yes! It is.

First, we should note…
that all our Associate Degree Programs are fully through the American Winds College of Aeronautics and are designated as 2 year programs.

But it is possible to accomplish getting your Associate degree in as little as one year with our fast-track program!

Here is how that works…

Our Associate Degree Program is actually 4 different Associate Degree of Applied Science programs.

  • Aeronautics (PPP)
  • Rotary Transition (RTP)
  • Aeronautical Instruction (IPP)
  • Aviation Administration & Management Program (AAM)

>>> The first step is to choose one of the 4 programs above.

With the exception of the Aviation Administration Program,  all of the Associate Degree Programs, are designed for the student interested in pursuing a career as a professional pilot. And all programs with the exception of the Aviation Administration Program qualify for the Restricted ATP.

Professional career pilot opportunities include regional/major airlines, charter industry, government, corporate flight, air ambulance, cargo and freight, and aerial survey – among many other opportunities.

Aeronautics (PPP)  – is designed for the absolute beginner “0” time pilot to advance to becoming a professional, commercial pilot.
(qualifies for Restricted ATP)
Learn more about the Aeronautics PPP here.

Rotary Transition (RTP)   – is designed for transition of the pilot with Rotary experience over to fixed wing flying and advancing on to becoming a professional, commercial pilot.
(qualifies for Restricted ATP)
Learn more about the Rotary Transition RTP here.

Aeronautical Instruction (IPP)  – is designed for pilots that already have their Private Pilot rating and wish to continue on to a Commercial Rating and becoming a professional pilot.
(qualifies for Restricted ATP)
Learn more about the Aeronautical Instruction IPP here.

Aviation Administration & Management Program (AAM) – is specialized and designed for those who are looking to work in the fields of aircraft and aviation management, such as FBO management or airline dispatcher.
(does not qualify for Restricted ATP)
Learn more about the Aviation Administration IPP here.

All Associate Degree Programs prepare the beginning student to take their Private Pilot Certificate FAA knowledge exam, oral exam, and flight practical exam. Thereby completing your Private Pilot Certification.

>>> The student proceeds on to add the Instrument Rating.

This rating allows the student to use the aircraft’s instruments to navigate without visual ground references. It consists of preparation for the Instrument Certificate FAA knowledge exam, oral exam, and flight practical test.

>>> The next step is for the student to prepare for their Commercial Pilot Certificate.

The Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument rating allows the individual to act as a pilot for compensation or hire. It consists of preparation for the Commercial Certificate FAA knowledge exam, oral exam, and flight practical test.

The Commercial Certificate has two class ratings, single engine land and multi engine land. The student must select one of these two class ratings for their Commercial Pilot Certificate.

>>> Once completed with the Commercial Pilot Certificate, the student has four Elective options.

They are:

  1. Additional Commercial Class Rating (either single engine or multi engine depending on what classification was selected for the Commercial Pilot Certificate)
  2. Certificated Flight Instructor [CFI]
  3. Certificated Flight Instrument Instructor [CFII]
  4. Certificated Multi Engine Instructor [MEI]

In the Associate Degree Program…

During the Aviation Certification process (and over the course of one year with our fast-track program), General Aviation Courses and General Academic Courses are  wrapped together.

Because we offer both academic & aviation classes and flight training year round, with our fast-track program, we can help the student accomplish everything they need to learn in as little as one year.

But, we don’t rush the process. If the student wishes to go at a slower pace, we can do that too. Our students can go at whatever pace is comfortable for them – the most important factor being comprehensive instruction of both aviation and academic courses, but especially comprehensive flight training.

Below are the courses involved with an Associate Degree from American Winds.

There are 6 Aviation Certification Courses:
Private Pilot ground
